Making the Stretch! – Engine Company Operations

Getting water on the fire makes all of our other problems go away.  It is the one thing we must do on every fire to stop the incident.  Today’s fire service has us doing more and more and we have lost the art of making a good stretch.  This “When Things Go Bad” course begins with a brief classroom presentation to review target flow rates, the different types of nozzles and hose loads we will see in the field. We will learn about GPM vs. BTU and matching the weapon to the size of the fight.

Techniques taught will include: Various Rig to the Door Stretches, Nozzle handling and Hose movement for short-staffed companies.  After this class you will feel much more confident in making a great stretch.

If you have hose on your rig, the citizens and your brothers assigned to other tasks on the fire ground expect that you can pull the right hose and get it into position quickly. Embrace the challenge!
