Getting water on the fire makes all of our other problems go away. It is the one thing we must do on every fire to stop the incident. Today’s fire service has us doing more and more and we have lost the art of making a good stretch, especially when the stretch is beyond the reach of our pre-connect. This “When Things Go Bad” course begins with a brief classroom presentation discussing how to estimate the stretch and different setup options available to us. We will review hose construction basics and how true inner diameter and materials used affects our operation. Throughout we emphasize the importance of BIG FIRE=BIG WATER.
Techniques taught will include: Hallway Stretch, Vertical Stretches including “Well-Hole” and “Hoisting”, The Courtyard Lay and the 2.5” Blitz. After this class you will feel much more confident in making a difficult stretch look easy.
If you have hose on your rig, the citizens and your brothers assigned to other tasks on the fire ground expect that you can pull the right hose and get it into position quickly. Embrace the challenge!
